40 Min One Dumbbell Full Body Workout | Giant Sets | All Standing, No Jumping

One Dumbbell. 40 Minutes. Full-Body Strength!
You don't need a huge collection of equipment to get a fantastic full-body strength workout at home.
For today's 40 Minute One Dumbbell Full Body Workout, we're keeping things wonderfully simple.
One dumbbell.
That's it!
We'll use giant sets to work the body from top to toe, combining upper and lower-body exercises to challenge the shoulders, arms, back, core, glutes and legs.
And we've got another bonus...
NO LUNGES!
Everything is also all standing and no jumping, making this a really practical full-body strength session when you want to grab one weight and get on with your workout.

🏋️ How Do the Giant Sets Work?
A giant set simply means performing several exercises consecutively as one larger block.
For today's workout, we'll perform four exercises back-to-back before moving on.
I love this format because it gives our strength workouts a really satisfying flow.
Instead of completing endless sets of the same exercise, we move through four different movements, complete the block and then progress to our next challenge.
It also gives us a fantastic way to challenge muscular endurance alongside strength.
Why Use Just One Dumbbell?
One dumbbell gives us far more options than you might imagine.
We can hold it:
💪 In one hand
💪 Centrally with both hands
💪 At the shoulder
💪 In front of the body
💪 To one side
That means we can change both the exercise and the way the body has to respond to the load.
It's also incredibly convenient for home training.
You don't need a fully equipped gym. If you have one appropriately challenging dumbbell, you've got enough equipment to train your whole body.
🔥 The Added Core Challenge
Using one dumbbell also gives us plenty of opportunities to work asymmetrically.
If you're holding a dumbbell on only one side, the resistance naturally creates an uneven load.
Your core then has to help stabilise your body and maintain your position.
So your core isn't only working when we perform something that looks like a traditional abdominal exercise.
It's contributing throughout many of our standing strength movements.
That's functional core training at work.
💪 Which Muscles Are We Training?
This really is a full-body workout.
Across our giant sets we'll challenge:
Shoulders & ArmsUsing different pushing, raising, curling and extension movements.
BackWith pulling and rowing patterns to strengthen the muscles of the upper and mid-back.
CoreHelping to stabilise and control the body, particularly during our unevenly loaded exercises.
Glutes & LegsUsing lower-body strength exercises without relying on lunges.
❤️ Why Full-Body Strength Training Matters
Strength training becomes particularly valuable as we move through midlife and beyond.
Maintaining muscular strength can support:
✔️ Everyday movement✔️ Functional independence✔️ Bone health✔️ Balance and stability✔️ Joint support✔️ Body composition✔️ Everyday lifting and carrying✔️ Healthy ageing
And strength training doesn't have to mean spending hours in a gym.
A dumbbell and 40 purposeful minutes at home can give us an awful lot to work with.
How Heavy Should Your Dumbbell Be?
There isn't one perfect weight.
Choose a dumbbell that allows you to complete each exercise with good control and technique, while still making the working muscles feel appropriately challenged.
You may also find that your ideal weight changes between exercises.
Your legs may comfortably handle a load that is simply too much for your shoulders.
If you have several dumbbells available, please feel free to change weight as we move through the workout.
If you only have one, you can alter your range, tempo or exercise option where necessary.
