40 Min 5,000 Steps Walking Workout | No Jumping Cardio

5,000 Steps, Great Music and 40 Minutes of Movement! 🚶‍♀️🎵
Ready to get those steps in?
Today's 40 Minute 5,000 Steps Walking Workout is all about continuous, enjoyable movement, a brilliant upbeat pop soundtrack and giving you the freedom to work at an intensity that suits you.
We're aiming for approximately 5,000 steps through 40 different one-minute movements.
And the best part?
You decide how challenging the workout becomes.
Looking for something a little gentler on a lighter activity day? Keep the movements smaller, enjoy the music and walk at a comfortable pace.
Want a more challenging cardiovascular workout? Increase your range of movement, really use those arms and put more power behind your steps.
Same workout. Different intensity.
And absolutely NO JUMPING.

🚶‍♀️ How Does the Workout Work?
We've got 40 one-minute movements to keep the session varied and easy to follow.
Rather than spending the whole workout marching on the spot, we'll use a range of walking patterns and full-body movements to keep things interesting.
I've also included three marching minutes throughout the workout.
These give you an opportunity to bring the intensity down, grab a drink if needed and then get straight back into the next section.
But we're not completely stopping.
We're keeping the body moving and allowing the steps to accumulate.
❤️ What Is Steady-State Cardio?
Steady-state cardio involves maintaining a relatively consistent, sustainable level of effort over a longer period.
Rather than repeatedly pushing towards maximum intensity and recovering, we're aiming to find a pace that allows us to keep moving.
And that's exactly what I love about longer walking workouts.
You can settle into the rhythm, enjoy the music and allow the minutes to add up.
It's a different challenge from a high-intensity interval session, but it can still be a very effective way to develop cardiovascular fitness.
Why I Love Longer Walking Workouts
Walking workouts are wonderfully versatile.
They can be a useful way to increase daily movement without needing complicated choreography or lots of equipment.
And because we're working continuously, you have time to settle into a comfortable rhythm.
I also love the psychological side of these longer workouts.
Rather than concentrating on how many minutes are left, you can enjoy the music, focus on each new movement and watch those steps accumulate.
Before you know it, another thousand steps have disappeared!
🎵 The Music Makes a Difference!
This workout has a fantastic upbeat pop soundtrack, and I really want you to enjoy it.
Music can make exercise feel more engaging and help you settle into a rhythm.
There's something lovely about moving to a great beat, particularly during a longer cardio session.
So if you find yourself getting carried away with the music and putting a little extra energy into those steps, that's absolutely fine!
Just remember to keep your movements controlled.
❤️ Benefits of Walking Cardio
Regular walking and other aerobic exercise can help:
Improve cardiovascular fitness
Build stamina and endurance
Increase daily movement
Support heart health
Increase energy expenditure
Improve coordination
Support mood and general wellbeing
Build a consistent exercise routine
And because today's workout is all standing and low impact, you can increase your cardiovascular effort without introducing jumping.
How Many Steps Will I Get?
We're aiming for approximately 5,000 steps.
Your actual step count may vary depending on your pace, stride length, exercise modifications and fitness tracker.
Some watches may not recognise every movement as a step, particularly when we're incorporating larger arm movements or side-to-side patterns.
So please don't worry if your tracker gives you a slightly different total.
The important thing is the time you've spent moving.
🔥 How Can I Make It More Challenging?
You don't need to jump to increase the intensity.
Try:
Making your movements bigger
Increasing your range of motion
Using your arms more purposefully
Increasing your pace where comfortable
Putting more power behind each step
You could also use very light wrist weights if they're appropriate for you, although they are entirely optional and shouldn't affect your natural arm movement or comfort.
If you want a gentler session, simply do the opposite.
Slow down, reduce your range and enjoy the movement.
Who Is This Workout For?
This session is a lovely option if you're looking for:
A 5,000-step workout at home
Low-impact walking cardio
A 40-minute walking workout
No-jumping exercise
An all-standing workout
Equipment-free cardio
A longer steady-state session
Walking workouts for women over 50
A more adaptable cardio workout
How Hard Should You Work?
Because we're exercising for 40 minutes, find a pace that you can sustain.
You should feel your breathing increase during the more energetic sections, but you shouldn't feel you have to work at maximum intensity.
Use the marching intervals to recover whenever you need to.
And remember, your workout, your intensity.

Final Thoughts
This is one of those workouts that you can return to again and again, depending on what your body needs.
Keep it gentle and enjoy 40 minutes of comfortable movement.
Or increase the pace, make those movements bigger and turn it into a more challenging cardio session.
Either way, we're aiming for approximately 5,000 steps, enjoying some great music and getting plenty of movement into the day.
Forty minutes. Five thousand steps. Let's get walking!Â
