If you've ever experienced tight, stiff or aching calves after walking, running, strength training or simply spending long hours on your feet, you know just how uncomfortable they can become.
Your calf muscles work incredibly hard throughout the day. Every step you take relies on them helping to push your body forwards while supporting your balance and stability.
That's why taking a few minutes to care for them can make such a difference.
This 10 Minute Calf Stretch & Recovery routine has been carefully designed to gradually improve flexibility by progressing through several different stretching techniques. Rather than jumping straight into deep stretches, we'll gently prepare the muscles before moving into more advanced flexibility work, helping you stretch comfortably and effectively.
Whether you're recovering after exercise or simply looking to improve your mobility, this routine is a wonderful addition to your weekly fitness programme.

What To Expect From This Workout
Today's routine gradually progresses through several different stretching methods, allowing the muscles to warm up before deeper flexibility work begins.

Equipment: Exercise Mat
Long Towel
Small Towel
Optional Yoga Block
Standing & Seated Exercises
Suitable For All Levels
Throughout the session we'll combine movement, static stretching and PNF stretching to encourage improved flexibility and mobility.
Why We Start With Dynamic Stretching
Before asking a muscle to lengthen, it's helpful to encourage gentle movement first.
That's exactly why this routine begins with dynamic calf mobility exercises.
These controlled movements gradually increase circulation and prepare the muscles and ankle joint for the stretches that follow.
Dynamic stretching is a gentle way to introduce movement before progressing into longer-held positions.
Moving Into Static Stretching
Once the calves have warmed up, we move into several static stretches.
These include:
Wall-assisted calf stretches
Heel drop stretches
Seated towel stretches
Holding each stretch allows the muscles time to gradually relax while improving flexibility over time.
Remember that stretching should create a gentle feeling of tension rather than pain.
What Is PNF Stretching?
The final stage of today's routine introduces PNF stretching, which stands for Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation.
Although the name sounds complicated, the technique itself is quite simple.
You'll gently press your foot into the towel for around ten seconds before relaxing and using the towel to increase the stretch for approximately fifteen seconds.
This process is repeated several times on each leg.
Many people enjoy PNF stretching because it can help improve flexibility while encouraging greater awareness of how the muscles relax during stretching.
