❤️ Why I Love Beginner Walking Workouts
Sometimes the simplest workouts are exactly what we need.
You don't always need complicated exercises or challenging intervals to benefit from moving your body.
Walking-style workouts can be a lovely way to introduce more activity into your day.
And because today's workout is completely standing, there's no need to worry about getting up and down from the floor.
I particularly like this type of session for anyone who wants to build confidence with exercise.
The movements are straightforward, the pace is adaptable and there's no pressure to keep up with anybody else.
Is This Workout Suitable for Beginners?
Yes, this workout has been designed with beginners in mind.
But beginner-friendly doesn't mean everybody has exactly the same ability.
If you're completely new to exercise, you may prefer to:
Start at a slower pace
Keep the steps smaller
Reduce your range of movement
Take additional breaks
Complete part of the workout initially
And that's absolutely fine.
As your fitness improves, you can gradually increase the time and intensity.
The important thing is to begin at a level that feels manageable for you.
🦵 Is This Walking Workout Knee Friendly?
Today's workout is low impact and contains no jumping.
That can make it a useful option for people who prefer a more joint-considerate style of exercise.
However, everybody's knees are different.
A movement that feels comfortable for one person may not suit another.
Keep your steps controlled, avoid forcing a large range of movement and choose alternatives whenever needed.
And if an exercise causes pain, please stop or modify it.
Low impact is a useful starting point — not a guarantee that every movement will suit every joint.
❤️ Benefits of Walking at Home
Regular walking and other moderate physical activity can help:
Improve cardiovascular fitness
Build stamina and endurance
Increase daily movement
Support heart health
Improve coordination
Reduce sedentary time
Support mood and wellbeing
Build confidence with exercise
And indoor walking has one particularly useful advantage.
You can do it regardless of the weather!
How Far Will We Walk?
We're aiming for approximately one mile during the workout.
Because this is an indoor session using a variety of walking-style exercises, your fitness tracker may calculate a different distance.
Your recorded total can depend on:
Stride length
Walking pace
Movement choices
Exercise modifications
How your device estimates indoor distance
So don't worry if your watch doesn't show exactly one mile.
The important thing is that you've spent 20 minutes moving.
Why 20 Minutes Is a Great Place to Start
Twenty minutes is long enough to enjoy a meaningful period of activity without necessarily feeling overwhelming.
And if you're trying to establish a consistent exercise routine, shorter, manageable sessions can be a really practical starting point.
You might begin with this workout once or twice a week, depending on your fitness and other activity.
Then, as you become more comfortable, you can gradually increase your exercise time or try a slightly more challenging walking session.
There's no need to rush.
❤️ Who Is This Workout For?
This workout is a lovely option if you're looking for:
A one-mile walk at home
Beginner walking workouts
Low-impact cardio
No-jumping exercise
An easy 20-minute workout
Indoor walking
All-standing exercise
Equipment-free movement
Walking workouts for women over 50
A lighter activity day
How Hard Should You Work?
Find a pace that allows you to move comfortably and maintain control.
Your breathing may increase slightly as you walk, but you shouldn't feel as though you're struggling to keep up.
If you want more intensity, gradually increase your pace or use your arms more purposefully.
If you need less, slow down and keep the movements smaller.
And remember, you don't have to match my exact speed.
