How Does the Workout Work?
We're keeping things beautifully simple.
We have 10 different full-body movements, each performed for 45 seconds.
Rather than isolating one small muscle group at a time, we're using larger movements that involve the upper and lower body together.
This allows us to challenge multiple muscle groups while keeping the heart rate moving.
And because the exercises change regularly, the ten minutes seem to fly by!
❤️ What Do We Mean by “Metabolism Boost”?
You'll often see workouts described as metabolism boosters, including mine.
But I think it's important to explain what that actually means.
Your metabolism refers to the processes your body uses to produce and use energy.
Exercise increases energy expenditure while you're moving, and your body continues using energy as it recovers afterwards.
However, a ten-minute workout doesn't permanently speed up your metabolism or magically switch on fat loss.
What it can do is help you move more, increase your heart rate and contribute towards your overall physical activity.
And when those short sessions become part of a consistent routine, they can make a meaningful contribution to your fitness.
So we're using “metabolism boost” as a friendly way of describing a quick, energising full-body workout — not promising a dramatic metabolic transformation.
☀️ Why Try This Workout in the Morning?
If you enjoy exercising first thing, this is a lovely way to get your body moving after waking up.
You don't need to organise equipment, change weights or learn complicated choreography.
Just clear some space and press play.
Ten minutes of movement can help you feel more awake and ready to start your day.
But there's nothing magical about exercising in the morning.
If lunchtime or the evening works better for you, that's absolutely fine too.
The best time to exercise is the time that allows you to be consistent.
Why Short Workouts Still Count
I think we sometimes underestimate what we can achieve with shorter sessions.
Not every workout needs to last 45 minutes or an hour.
Short bouts of physical activity contribute towards your overall movement and can be particularly useful when you're trying to establish a regular exercise habit.
They also remove one of the biggest barriers to exercise:
Time.
If you've only got ten minutes, use those ten minutes.
You don't need to write the whole day off because you can't fit in a longer session.
❤️ Benefits of This 10-Minute Workout
Regular short cardio sessions can help:
Increase daily movement
Challenge cardiovascular fitness
Improve stamina over time
Increase energy expenditure
Improve coordination
Work multiple muscle groups
Support general wellbeing
Build exercise consistency
And because today's workout is completely standing and low impact, there's no need to introduce jumping or floor exercises.
Why This Is Particularly Useful Over 50
As we move through midlife and beyond, maintaining regular physical activity becomes increasingly important.
Cardiovascular exercise supports heart and lung fitness, while resistance training helps maintain muscular strength.
Short full-body workouts can be a useful addition to that broader routine.
They're particularly handy on days when you don't have time for a longer session or when you simply want an additional burst of movement.
Of course, a ten-minute cardio workout doesn't replace all the benefits of dedicated strength training.
That's why I like combining shorter stackable workouts with longer cardio, strength and mobility sessions throughout the week.
🔥 How Hard Should You Work?
You control the intensity.
Want a bigger challenge?
Increase your pace, make the movements larger and use your arms more purposefully.
Need a gentler workout?
Slow down, reduce your range and take additional recovery whenever you need it.
Low impact doesn't automatically mean low effort.
But it also doesn't mean you have to work at maximum intensity.
Find the level that's right for you.

Make It a Stackable Workout
One of my favourite ways to use shorter workouts is to combine them with other sessions.
For example, you could use today's workout:
As a standalone morning cardio session
After a longer strength workout
Before a gentle stretching session
As an additional movement break during your day
Or simply save it for those days when you want to do something rather than nothing.
That's the beauty of a ten-minute stackable.

No equipment.
No floor work.
Just ten big full-body movements to get your heart rate up and your body moving.
Whether you're starting your morning, taking a break from work or adding a little extra cardio to your day, let's make those ten minutes count!
